This week’s WDW collection features six dresses with a sheer straps. Sheer straps provide the support without having heavy fabrics and thick straps covering up your body’s nicest features, your neck and shoulders. Sheer straps are matched with various silhouettes for a surprisingly fresh twist on the tradional strap.

Wedding Belle: Voluminous pleated ruffles canopy over the tulle ballgown skirt. The loose diaphanous wrap can be removed for the reception to allow freedom on the dance floor. {Eugenia Couture; $3000+}

Crystal Clear: The ethereal silk chiffon dress glides across the floor. Exquisite beading emphasizes the plunging décolleté. {Jenny Packham; $3000+}

Sheer Beauty: Embroidery and beading pepper the bodice. The intricate details drip to the hip and a glittery brooch cinches the fabric. The sweetheart neckline has an overlay of chiffon to create a halter neckline. {Impression; $750}

The English Department’s 2010 Bridal Fashion Show was filled with a flurry of frocks from designers like Jenny Yoo, Simple Silhouettes, Thread, Alix and Kelly and our own, Elizabeth Dye.

Tiptoe through the Tulips: Ruching defines the bodice without overplaying the layers. Slight flare in the skirt creates a flattering silhouette. {Jenny Yoo; $1025}

Fancy Free: Split seam Strapless sweetheart neckline with a twisted knotted at the bust. Double layered skirt shows off the soft under layer. {Jenny Yoo; $935}

Flora and Fauna: Fabric covered buttons line the side of the dress for a twist on tradition. Slimming a-line skirt falls from natural waist. Add a flower for a punch of color or use the detachable sash. {Jenny Yoo; $825}

The Sophisticate: The crinkle chiffon bodice overlaps on the neckline and gives . The mermaid skirt is cut on the bias and adds length and volume. {Jenny Yoo; $800}

Wedding Dress Wednesday :: Runway to Rack

Last Spring (yes, 2009), designers debuted their Spring 2010 lines. Now that spring is almost upon us, it seems more relevant. Most of the dresses from the runaway never make it to the rack. Why is that? Depending on the reaction from the reviews, availability of the fabric and the mood of the designer or reasons unbeknown to us, dress designs may be for runway only. Luckily, these stunning silhouettes made the cut. Literally. Enjoy!

Hand Stamp: Swirls of embroidery line the hem and down the back of the dress. Lightly layered tulle covers the bodice and meets a ribboned belt and floral brooch. {Jim Hjelm}

Sheer Beauty: Tulle straps float across the sweetheart neckline creating a shirred texture. A ribbon belt is accented with a flower with pearl touches. An unusual detail, a Watteau train attaches to the mid-back, creating a higher tulle train. {Christos}

Top Notch: Barely-there floral embroidery delicately graces the skirt. Tulle flows from the natural waistline into an a-line skirt. Straight neckline with an inventive square notch adds a distinguishing feature. {Angel Sanchez}

By Any Other Name: The bodice adds delicate detail with the layered tulle. Coils of embroidered tulle rose cloak the the full skirt. {Lela Rose; $3000+}

Halt!: Thick halter straps create a deep v-neckline and a show-stopping open back. A ruched natural waistline minimizes the waist and accentuates a full skirt. {Amsale}

Wedding Dress Wednesday :: Greek Inspired Gowns

There is something utterly romantic about the Greek Isles. Celebrate your love next to jewel toned green and blue waters, between crisp white buildings and with a love from another world. Or if you don’t want a destination trip, try on a dress that will elevate you to another level. This week’s collection is inspired from mythical goddesses. Float around and peruse the options and please enjoy the view.

1) Venetian Vixen: Glamourous and fitting, this silk sheath gown will drape the body magnificently. Gold rhinestones embellish the straps and form an X over the v-neckline. 5) Classic Couture: Demand attention with this ever-stylish v-neck a-line dress. Twisted rope-like straps are reminiscent of days of antiquity. Silk dupioni and beaded detailing around the waist make this a classy option. (Manuel Mota; $2200)

Summer is just around the corner (fingers crossed!), which means outdoor weddings are a plenty. Feast your eyes on these delicious frocks that have flower embellishments. It is perfect match for a garden fete under the sun.

1) Bed of Roses: This demure gown is made of Chantilly lace and embroidered tulle. The mermaid silhouette features a deep cut back and scalloped neckline details. From the flare of the skirt to the hem, the embroidered tulle rosettes dot the dress. (Lela Rose; $5000)
